China will export commuter trains to Indonesia for the first time, according to a report by China's staterun Xinhua News Agency.

The deal, which was signed between China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) and Indonesia's PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI), involves the supply of 224 commuter trains over the next three years.

The trains, which will be used in the Jakarta metropolitan area, are expected to help alleviate traffic congestion in Indonesia's capital city.

The agreement marks the latest in a series of highprofile deals between China and other countries in the region, as Beijing seeks to expand its influence through the "Belt and Road" initiative.

The Belt and Road initiative is a massive investment and infrastructure project aimed at connecting Asia with Africa and Europe, and boosting economic growth across the continent.

The move is seen as a significant step forward for China's railway industry, which has been working to increase its presence in overseas markets.

China is already the world's largest producer of highspeed trains, and has exported its technology to several countries, including Thailand, India, and the United Kingdom.
